Hello Fans of THE CATS OF MIRIKITANI,

Jimmy Mirikitani will be 90 in June!  We are planning another big party for him. All are welcome.

The party is an all day open house, with entertainment throughout the day -  including dancers from the Sachiyo Ito dance troupe and taiko from Kaoru Watanabe (around 3 pm or so).   If you or your friends would like to sing, dance, or otherwise celebrate Jimmy's big day in a creative way, feel free to participate!

People have asked about suggested gifts -- Jimmy enjoys plants, Japanese food, t-shirts, samurai movies, picture books and magazines, art supplies, little figurines, and gift certificates to Kinokunia bookstore.

The past year has been eventful as usual.  Jimmy attended his 5th pilgrimage to Tule Lake, visited his sister in Seattle, was honored with a reception by JACL friends and fans in his birthplace of Sacramento, and visited Linda's family in Cincinnati.    He also traveled upstate to Utica NY for the opening of his one-man art show at the Stanley Center for the Arts (on loan from the Wing Luke Asian Museum).

This summer, THE CATS OF MIRIKITANI will be screened at the Smithsonian Museum of American Art on August 29, in conjunction with the exhibit "The Art of Gaman: Arts and Crafts from the Japanese American Internment Camps, 1942 - 1946."    A painting that Jimmy did while in the Tule Lake camp is on view in the Smithsonian show!

For more info on the exhibit and the screening in DC, see http://americanart.si.edu/exhibitions/archive/2010/gaman/

Looking forward to seeing old friends and new ones-

Peace,
Linda, Masa, and Jimmy
