Position OverviewThe Office of School Innovation is committed to improving student academic achievement in DC Public Schools and providing all students with access to high quality and diverse educational options. To this end, the Office seeks to implement innovative and effective whole school reform initiatives and models. The DC Catalyst Project seeks to build compelling schools on the foundation of theme-focused curricula and high-quality instructional strategies. The Catalyst Coordinator at each Catalyst school is responsible for coordinating the implementation of the Catalyst theme across the entire school. This includes working with the principal to establish and communicate the instructional vision of the school, supporting educators in integrating the theme in each classroom, and serving as the school’s primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders in the Catalyst Project. The Coordinator will also implement school-level evaluation of the Project, communicating data and progress to the Office of School Innovation. The Arts Integration Coordinator reports to the principal of the Catalyst school. Responsibilities• Provides theme expertise to assist the principal, leadership team, and other educators in developing, implementing, and communicating the school-wide vision for arts integration Qualifications• Serves as initial point of contact for information, inquiries, and logistical coordination of the DC Catalyst Project at the school level • Organizes multiple elements of the Project including in-school professional development for educators, school-wide projects, and the school’s communication strategy concerning the Project • Tracks Project progress regularly using various computer programs and tools, collects and analyses data on student achievement, the school-wide impact of arts integration, and implementation of the Catalyst Project; reports data to principal and Catalyst Project specialists • Coordinates interactive parent and community events that showcase and introduce the school community to arts integration • Assists classroom teachers (in conjunction with the Instructional Coach) with lesson planning and delivery, facilitates post-lesson reflection, and provides feedback. • Determines nature of obstacles and best DCPS staff to resolve, tracks and follows up until issue is resolved • Negotiates contracts with visiting artists, shows, or community organizations • Maintains and executes Catalyst Project budget at the school level, fundraises and/or writes grant proposals when specific needs are identified beyond provided budget • Collaborates with After School Coordinator to extend the presence of the arts and arts integration into out-of-school time activities • Supports and carries out the Chancellor’s mission to transform DC Public Schools and close the achievement gap • Performs other related duties as assigned Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years work experience required, with master’s degree and specific experience in arts integration in the classroom or arts education preferred. |
