Description
Job Summary
Provides addictions therapy to clients of the Clinic, including diagnostic assessment, treatment planning and professional counseling through individual and group sessions. Collaborates with other treatment personnel as necessary to ensure a coordinated, comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach.

Primary Essential Duties
·         Interviews, evaluates, and assigns a diagnosis to new clients with complex problems relating to alcohol and other drug abuse.
·         Prepares and implements treatment plans including completion of all necessary forms and reports for the case/medical record.
·         Monitors client progress through the course of treatment, reevaluating and adapting the treatment plan at required intervals.
·         Helps identify and address related problems affecting addictions recovery, such as housing, vocational rehabilitation, and social integration.
·         Conducts substance abuse educational programs for clients.
  • Assists in evaluation of treatment programs and the design of policy and procedures.
  • Monitors client progress toward treatment goals, reassessing client need in a clinically appropriate timeframe and providing ongoing treatment to match client’s level of need.
  • Assists clients in identifying and accessing various Clinic and community resources, collaborating with other Whitman-Walker providers to create a multidisciplinary plan of care.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records on every assigned client, conducting monthly self-review of notes and files and adhering to all Clinic policies on documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Budget Responsibilities
            No direct budget responsibility.

            No personnel management responsibility.

Knowledge, Skills and Talents Required
  • Thorough knowledge of substance abuse treatment principles, counseling techniques, diagnostic assessment, and treatment planning.
  • Good working knowledge of the health care delivery system, social services and community based resources and support groups.
  • Strong clinical skills, with proven ability to engage, assess, provide interventions and terminate appropriately with diverse populations.
  • Ability to conduct sensitive, empathetic interviews that respect the dignity and diversity of clients.
  • Ability to maintain client records and information in an accurate, timely and confidential manner.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships within the organization and with external providers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including sensitivity to diverse cultural, ethnic, sexual orientation, and gender identities, as well as issues surrounding HIV/AIDS.
 Education and Experience Required
·         Must have a Master of Social Work or related degree, with current LICSW or LPC licensure in the District of Columbia.
·         At least two years of clinical experience in addictions work required, with at least one year of experience working with HIV-positive or minority populations.
