The Black Entertainment Television (BET) Foundation, in partnership with the Aetna Foundation, is pleased to announce the inaugural FIT, FLY & FLOURISHING Girl's Empowerment Summit coming to Maryland in 2009!The purpose of the Summit is to enlighten, encourage and empower African American girls ages 10-12 to take charge of their health, network with peers, and become agents of change in their homes, schools and communities. The summit will also include a parent track that will address the same topics of the girl's track.Admittance to the Summit is FREE and by invitation only! Participants must complete the essay form and share the reason they want to attend, why living a healthy lifestyle is important to them and how they can help their community become healthy, for an opportunity to receive an invitation to the summit. Essays will be judged by a panel based on responses, winners will be notified by mail and phone if they were accepted to participate in the summit and will receive a formal invitation packet.Here is where we need your help; we would like you to distribute the attached flyer and essay form to all 10-12 year-old African American girls and their parents in your network to give everyone an opportunity to participate in this GREAT event! All forms are due to back to BET Foundation by August 21, 2009.We are also looking for volunteers!
