Gustavo (Gus) Gonzalez
GONZALEZ Gustavo (Gus) Gonzalez passed away on May 31, 2009 as a result of a car accident. He was born in Havana, Cuba, on October 23, 1957 and immigrated to Jacksonville, Florida in November of 1960 with his parents and his brother Steve. Gus graduated with Honors from Sandalwood High School and graduated Cum Laude from the University of Florida in 1980 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He also received Masters Degrees from George Washington University and Ohio State University. Gus worked as an Art Therapist for Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, for 10 years. After returning to Jacksonville he continued with his successful career as an art therapist with St. Vincent's Hospital and Orange Park Hospital. He found his life's calling working with adolescents in the resident program at River Point Hospital, previously known as Ten Broeck, for the last eight years. Gus was very proud of his achievements while working with those children. Gus is survived by his parents Pepe and Rafa and he is predeceased by his brother Steve who passed away in 1992. He leaves behind many friends and extended family that will miss him dearly, not only here in Jacksonville but everywhere he lived. A Memorial Service will be held at Arlington Park Funeral Home on Thursday June 4, 2009, between 6:00 and 8:00 PM. A mass will be celebrated at Christ the King Catholic Church on Arlington Road on Friday June 5, 2009 at 10:30 AM. The services will be officiated by Father Caesar Russo.
